It’s been a hectic, but fun, couple of days. Wendy took me to nearby Holgate Brewery for my birthday on the 23rd (Yes, Leigh has slipped out of third person to write this post!). It was a fantastic meal with crumbed mussels and tempura prawns for starters along with a sample plate of 8 beers produced at this micro-brewery. All the beers had their own character and the “paddle” was a great way to taste most in one sitting. The menu was exensive and each dish was usually cooked or marinated in a beer and also had a beer suggestion to go with each menu item. I had a Kangaroo done in a British Pale Ale marinade and Wendy had the Temptress (aptly named) Chocolate Ale Beef Pie. As we were leaving we picked up a few limited release “Christmas Ales” which we’ll review as we drink them!
After lunch we headed to Kyneton to have a look through historic Piper Street and saw at least three places we’re planing to eat out shortly. I recenlty ate at the Royal George Hotel for a work break up and was blown away with the decor, service and the food. Star Anise also looks great along with Pizza Verde. After a quick shop we headed to Fernleigh Farms near Daylesford to pick up our Christmas Ham along with a few other organic nibbles for Christmas Day.
Time to keep wrapping presents!
